Outlook Help
When you open Outlook Express, you will notice several folders on the left (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, etc.). You will also see a list of Contacts below the folders. The Contacts are the people in your address book. Most of the folders are self-explanatory. All mail received will go to the Inbox. All mail sent will temporarily go to the Outbox (before it goes out over the internet) and then to the Sent Items (after it has gone out over the internet. Any items deleted go to the Deleted Items folder. Any new messages created and saved (but not sent) will go to the Drafts folder.
Note that items in bold type are unread messages. To OPEN a message …… left double click on the message itself. To DELETE a message, highlight it (by clicking on it once) and then hit the Delete (X) button at top. Any messages Deleted will go to the Deleted folder. Once the messages in the Deleted Folder are deleted, they are gone forever. To FILE a message into a folder…. Drag it into the appropriate folder on left while holding left mouse button down …… or highlight the message then EDIT, then MOVE TO FOLDER, then highlight the desired folder and click OK. NOTE: You can create new folders to meet your needs by clicking FILE, then FOLDER, then NEW. When the new window pops up…… type in the name of the desired folder in the space provided, then click LOCAL FOLDERS once (to place the new folder under Local Folders), then click OK.
To CREATE a message…… click NEW MAIL.
To SEND a message……. Click on SEND when finished typing your message (note that your message will go to the OUTBOX and stay there until you do one of 3 things……..
To Create a message using STATIONARY……..click MESSAGE on the menu then NEW MESSAGE USING. A list of available stationary will pop up ….. select the one you desire. Note, not all internet servers can recognize stationary (such as Yahoo, Hotmail and AOL).
To REPLY to a message …….. open the message, and click REPLY. The email will automatically be addressed to the person who sent it to you. If REPLY TO ALL is selected, the message will be addressed to EVERYBODY included on the original message (including cc and bcc). To FORWARD a message to somebody else, click FORWARD and then TO to select a new addressee |
